“I am writing to thank you for the opportunity you have given me and for the way that opportunity has changed my life. Your nonprofit organization, Color My World, has given not only me, but many others the opportunity of a lifetime and for that, I am eternally grateful.
I would have never thought of myself, being the princess that I am, voluntarily putting myself through days of hard labor in the scorching Nicaraguan sun.
Jokes were made that whole first week of my visit about the expected complaints I would be making; not having my flat iron, breaking a nail, things as such.
Surprisingly enough, that week changed my life for the better. I experienced first hand what it was like to live in a third-world country.
I fed homeless families living in a garbage dump. I built homes for families who lost their belongings in floods. I taught English to children and adults eager to learn. I formed relationships with community members and local Nicaraguans.
I realized that there is so much more to life than having the newest and greatest technology, or the amount of ‘likes’ on your latest picture. I would have never truly understood how little those things mean if it were not for this trip.
The opportunities you have presented me with have changed my view on life. I saw and experienced things not many kids my age have, and I am incredibly grateful to have had the chance to be there and witness these things.
I wanted to let you know how thankful I am to have met you and how much these trips have truly changed my life. Thank you for everything.”
