We are Building a Library in El Estrecho, DR
Color My World Foundation & Dominican Starfish Foundation are building a library in El Estrecho, Dominican Republic.
The project plans are very clear.
The land has been selected near the center of the community. The library will service two communities, De Luperon and Escalerta and surrounding areas with a population of 6000.
The design has been made and proposed. The library will contain books and computers so it will be traditional and virtual.
What they are asking of us is to help them raise the money for the building. Their estimate on materials for the building is approximately $16000.
In October 2013, Color My World and our partner, Dominican Starfish presented a check for the entire amount to start the project.
People from the community will donate the labor and Jose Luis, our project manager, who will oversee the project and be in charge of purchasing materials.
They have been promised books from other sources once they have a building. We will also assist in collecting books and computer equipment.
Who will the library be named after? Luis Antonio Jaquez Cruz- A man with a huge vision.
We wish to build a library in his name to honor him as an educator, a visionary and a true proponent of freedom through education. This man was a teacher in the community for over 35 years. He is an uncle to Jose Luis. It was always his dream and goal to have a library for the community. He passed away this last spring at the age of 58. He was a master teacher.
Color My World and Dominican Starfish are working together on the ground in the DR to make this project come true.
