Facts-
* Each cinder block house cost $6000.00 to build.
* Our goal is 5 homes total in 2014.
* We built 2 more homes in Feb 2014 and have one under construction!
.
* Each house takes about three weeks to build.
* We have hand selected each family. We feel it is important to select families who are serving others in the community and can help themselves.
* The current conditions of homes are deplorable. Dirt floors, unsanitary conditions.
* Often the rain will flood the houses 4 feet deep, it is difficult to raise children in these environments.
* We have built 2 homes in this year in the same neighborhood.
Help make these homes a dream come true by donating!
Even small donations help….it takes a village!
We have the funds for one full home to complete as of September 2014 bringing our total to 3!
Our volunteer teams got down and dirty in Nicaragua this summer when they dug and built latrines/toliets for a school that was heavily damaged by rain in the village of Jiquillio.
While it wasn’t the most glamorous job and the temps were nearly in the hundreds our teams worked hard at providing a basic necessity for those who need it most….the children.
We are Building a Library in El Estrecho, DR
Color My World Foundation & Dominican Starfish Foundation are building a library in El Estrecho, Dominican Republic.
The project plans are very clear.
The land has been selected near the center of the community. The library will service two communities, De Luperon and Escalerta and surrounding areas with a population of 6000.
The design has been made and proposed. The library will contain books and computers so it will be traditional and virtual.
What they are asking of us is to help them raise the money for the building. Their estimate on materials for the building is approximately $16000.
In October 2013, Color My World and Dominican Starfish presented a check for the entire amount to start the project.
People from the community will donate the labor and Jose Luis, our project manager, who will oversee the project and be in charge of purchasing materials.
They have been promised books from other sources once they have a building. We will also assist in collecting books and computer equipment.
Who will the library be named after? Luis Antonio Jaquez Cruz- A man with a huge vision.
We wish to build a library in his name to honor him as an educator, a visionary and a true proponent of freedom through education. This man was a teacher in the community for over 35 years. He is an uncle to Jose Luis. It was always his dream and goal to have a library for the community. He passed away this last spring at the age of 58. He was a master teacher.
Color My World and Dominican Starfish are working together on the ground in the DR to make this project come true.
We built a new kitchen in Jiquillo, Nicaragua at the local school in the summer of 2013.
Here is a look at it complete in 2014 with the same youth who worked on it in 2013.
In 2014, We added a new playground to the same school.
Eric Williams of Arizona, joined us in the Dominican Republic to announce a new home to The Alamonte Family and gave a donation of $1000.00 to start the building process. Watch the video below to see the emotional announcement!
This house is dedicated to Eric’s wife Monya who is a breast cancer survivor.
On July 31st, 2009 Monya was diagnosed with stage 3 Breast Cancer.
This home and fundraising effort is donated to her!
Here is a glimpse of the house in it’s current state.
